A pause in passing
How does co-presence become visible?

 URBAN INTERVENTION         INTERACTION

This project explores how moments of pause and connection can emerge within the flow of everyday urban movement. Embedded within the familiar form of a Dutch municipal street lamp, the intervention subtly alters how presence is perceived.

When approached by a single pedestrian, the lamp does not light up. As a second person comes within its range, the light begins to intensify, quietly acknowledging their co-presence. As they get closer to each other, the light gets brighter. If both remain, the light pulses to the rhythm of their conversation and gradually warms in tone, recalling the atmosphere of gathering around a fire. In doing so, it allows the sidewalk to momentarily make room for lingering and the possibility for connection.
